Osteoarthritis is known to be amongst the most debilitating of diseases, and is clearly the most common type of arthritis. Our population has become riddled with this terrible affliction, with millions of new cases reported annually. The overall cost to society could be nearing $100 billion. While Osteoarthritis is not linked directly to sex, it is apparent that the disease is far more common in women.

Although age is an obvious factor in many cases of osteoarthritis, it’s also very clear that there are other areas of concern, such as sports injuries, or perhaps a previous auto accident, Any previous injury, broken bone etc. can become a contributing factor in later life to one’s osteoarthritis condition. Obesity is a worrying problem in our modern world and has a significant effect on those suffering with OA. Osteoarthritis is most commonly found in the hands, knees, hips and back.

The shoulder joint seems to shrug off OA, (excuse the pun), it’s not true to say that one can not have OA in one’s shoulder, its just not that common. More often than not symptoms of painful OA in the shoulder will normally be as a result of a past trauma or maybe even a previous operation. The reasons for being afflicted with OA are hard to pinpoint, however one’s occupation, weight, and family history may all play a part.

It is unclear whether excess weight influences OA or whether OA contributes to obesity, either way it is clear that losing excess weight can only help one’s osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease (re-occurring)

Osteoarthritis isn’t typically thought of as an inflammatory disease, but researchers have found that people with osteoarthritis have higher levels of inflammatory cells in their joints than are found in the joints of people who don’t have osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is undoubtedly a disabling, chronic condition, which mainly affects the body with age, however, to brand OA as a disease only associated with age would be wrong, yes many people will indeed be affected by osteoarthritis as they age, but more and more people of working age are reportedly suffering with the condition. Osteoarthritis should no longer be labelled as just another part of the body’s ageing process.

OA is not a disease linked to one area of the body, there are many variations of osteoarthritis, which can attack many different joints throughout one’s body. Unfortunately with most cases of OA the condition gathers momentum with time, with symptoms ranging form stiffness and pain to complete loss of mobility in the effected limb.

The Inevitable Deterioration of the Joint

OA will eventually begin to destroy the cartilage, which can cause the area around the affected joint to become inflamed, the inflammation in some cases might resemble rheumatoid arthritis.

The cartilage fragments are released into the synovial space, and the cells lining the joint. Inflammation can prevent the normal use of the joint and cause it to lose the ability to function properly.

The effects of osteoarthritis are normally felt at their worst in the morning or last thing at night. With a progressive condition such as OA, surgery is usually the inevitable end result especially in older arthritics, younger patients will normally only be offered joint replacement in exceptional circumstances.

At the hip and knee, an uncomplicated joint replacement has only around an 85% chance of still being intact and functioning after 15 years, however replacement joint surgery may be necessary in severe cases.

Exercise can Help

- MEA, DEA, and TEA: Also known as Monoethanolamine, Diethanolamine, and Triethanolamine, these ingredients can disrupt hormone balance and cause cancer. They are in almost everything produced by the synthetic skincare companies, including shampoo, bubble bath, and facial cleansers.

- Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate: You’re probably familiar with these ingredients as well. Used as foaming agents and detergents, you may have seen them listed on your shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste. These ingredients can cause skin irritation, depression, and even cancer.

Performance of Organic Makeup and Other Natural Skincare Products

Organic makeup is not only better for the environment, your skin, and your body; it also meets high standards for performance. It’s important that even though you wear organic makeup, you can expect it to perform as well as traditional synthetic products.

Natural skincare products perform as well or better than synthetic skincare products. They are far less likely to irritate skin, and they do no come with harmful side effects and dangerous long-term physical risks.
